Bombay Natural History Society, India’s premier environmental research organization engaged in conservation of nature, research in natural history / wildlife and nature education requires Centre Manager (1 post) for its Conservation Education Centre, Mumbai.
Job Description: He or She will be responsible in smooth functioning and financial sustainability of CEC. He or she is expected to have independent working style with concrete time-bound deliverables.
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Director, the incumbent will perform the following functions:
- To design, promote, manage, implement and evaluate environment programmes/projects/products/online courses for academic institutions, government sectors, corporate bodies and general public
- To write grants for educational projects and seek funding.
- To carry out fund-raising activities for CEC
- To develop periodic activity reports, annual plans and budgets
- To train and mentor staff (17 members) and volunteers
- To supervise CEC administration and educational activities.
- To attend/conduct periodic departmental/organizational meetings
- To convene meeting of Management Committee of Nature Education
- To ensure upkeep of CEC building and BNHS Nature Reserve through periodic repairs.
- To develop marketing strategies for programmes
- To write scientific/educational papers/articles in popular journals/magazines
- To co-ordinate online courses in Biodiversity and Entomology
- To liaison with like-minded partners for progressing conservation education
- To upgrade CEC infrastructure by purchase of equipment/vehicle/educational resources as and when required.
Core competencies required:
- Professionalism: Experience and expert knowledge of natural history and environmental issues; Ability to interact with wide range of audiences; Demonstrated proactive skills in designing and conductive educational programmes. Good research and analytical skills, and ability to rapidly analyze and integrate diverse information from varied sources.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills together with the ability to negotiate and crisis management.
- Publications: Published articles/papers on environment or education.
- Planning and organizing: Proven ability to plan and organize work, Ability to integrate the education administration and research work.
- Project Management: Skills in grant writing, fund raising and project management is must.
- Human Resource Management: Ability to work collaboratively with team members/volunteers and them to achieve organizational goals.
- Financial Management: Ability to develop departmental budgets (turnover of 1 crore), raise revenue and excise budget control.
- Commitment: The job demands good amount of commitment as it involves working on weekends/public holidays. At times, overnight stay during camps as well as outstation travelling in case of outstation camps is required. The working hours are flexible.
- Leadership: Proven ability of independent thinking and taking lead. Ability to be a visionary and forecasting future trends in conservation education and making necessary planning.
Job Specification:
- Academia: Master’s degree or equivalent in zoology / botany / Life Sciences / Environmental Studies.
- Work Experience: A minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in conducting educational programmes/projects in the field of environment or wildlife. Languages: English is the working language. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English and working knowledge of Marathi and Hindi is required.
- Computer Savvy: Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office (Word and Excel are must), email, internet (conversant with social media is must)) are required.
- Contract Condition: Once selected the candidate will undergo three-month probation period, if proved their mettle, he/she will be put on a three-year contract period with annual renewal based on annual performance.
- Desired Skills: Doctoral degree, international exposure, Business Management training will be added advantage.
Age: Below 45 years
