The Conservation Education Centre (CEC, Mumbai) represents the education wing of the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS). The CEC, established in 1997, is the knowledge trove of conservation education. The different areas of the Centre; the auditorium, discovery (activity) room, display room, open classroom, butterfly garden and wildlife watching hide offer its visitors a mixture of learning experiences.
As part of much required structural maintenance, the Centre is undergoing external and internal repairs to arrest the wear and tear of the building. The total repair cost is close to Rs. 20 lacs. With help of the generous grant of Rs.10 lacs from the Union Bank of India, the Centre has been treated for water leakages and external repairs. We need balance Rs.10 lacs to meet the cost of internal repairs. We are looking for support from our Members, and also from individuals, institutions and corporate bodies.
All contributions would be acknowledged and contributions over Rs.5 lacs would have dedicated nature trails of CEC for one year.
The Centre is fully equipped with education materials required to impart conservation education among its target audience, from students to a variety of professionals, homemakers and environmentalists. People from all walks of life visit the Centre throughout the year, and more than 15,000 people participate annually in a variety of conservation education activities held here.
The CEC conducts various popular environmental events such as Breakfast with Butterflies, Toast to Trees, Brown To Green, Monsoon Magic and many more. To strengthen the CEC activities, the Volunteer Training Programme is conducted every year. So far the Centre has trained over 80 volunteers for conservation education. The Centre offers distance-learning courses in Biodiversity Conservation and Basic Entomology.
