Course in Field Botany

 


We are happy to announce our third batch of a half year Basic Field Botany Course 20010-11. The major objectives are to inculcate scientific approach in plant identification of while appreciating the plant diversity around us. It also expects to popularize field botany and generate volunteers’ brigade working for conservation.
 
The course is open for all above 15 years having keen interest in the plant world.
 
Modules:
  1. The participants will be sent chapters on the topics covering plant morphology and related terminology, adaptations, life forms, classification, methods of collection and preservation of plant material, identification, biogeography, various habitat types and their representative flora, basic plant ecology and conservation.
  2. Field visits:
  • At least five one-day field visits (to places such as Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Maharashtra Nature Park, CEC campus, Karnala, Tungareshwar) will be      conducted.
  • At least two residential field visits (4-5 days each).
  • Visit to Blatter herbarium.

        3.     Project work: All the participants will select their own topic of interest for the project to be carried out during last month.

Course fee: Rs. 3,500/- for members and Rs. 4100/- for non-members. Please send the fees by DD in favour of BNHS. The course fees include course material, plant taxonomy tool kit, interaction with experts, and e- group discussions.

 Batch size: 40 participants
 Duration: 6 months

Please note that:
1.       Cost for the field visits is separate and on cost to cost basis.
2.       Three local and one residential field visits are mandatory.
3.       Certificates will be awarded only after completion of compulsory field visits and project wok.
