BNHS (Bombay Natural History Society) and the Pune-based Ecological Society would conduct a 4-month Post Graduate Diploma Course in Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Development and Ecological Restoration. This unique Course will be conducted on Sundays from 11th October 2009. This is the 13th year of this Course.
It has been realized that mere technological development to fulfill human needs has led to unbalanced growth at the expense of other life forms and the eco-system. What is required is a holistic approach in resource management that will contribute to solutions to local and global environmental challenges like global warming, mounting food prices and sustainable energy issues.
The objective of this Diploma Course is to impart training in sustainable use of natural resources. It aims at actions that will enhance the resources, while continuing their use. The Course has been designed to be inter-disciplinary to involve a blend of technology, ecology and socio-economic factors. The Course emphasizes field work, monitoring and collection of data, which will help participants to think about an alternative model of development and equitable sharing of natural resources.
The Course will include the study of various eco-systems such as mountain, coast, grassland and forest through 4 field camps. Participants will get opportunity to work on Ecological Society’s projects such as Nirmal Ganga Abhiyan (restoration of streams), Landscape Ecological Planning and Watershed Development. The admission process of the course is under progress.
