Nature Trail to Salim Ali Point. Salim Ali point is the pinnacle of the BNHS reserve, offering a panoramic view of the reserve and the adjoining the National Park. The point gives the most scenic view of Vihar Lake. During the current season, the forest turns into a bird-watchers paradise, with a myriad of songsters. Group leaders: Mr.Vandan Jhaveri & Mr. Vinod patil Charges: Rs. 50/- per head for member and Rs. 100/- for non-member. Reporting: Members to meet at CEC, Goregaon (east) at 7.00 a.m. How to get there: Take a 343 bus headed to Film City (not Santosh Nagar) from Goregaon (E) BEST depot. Alight at the last stop, near Reliance Media Works, and walk straight, towards Elephant Gate. Cross the barrier at Elephant Gate and walk straight, towards the BNHS sign. At the sign, take a right to find CEC. Registration: On the Spot. Please carry adequate water and packed breakfast, be prepared for a hot day. The programme should conclude by 11.00 a.m. |
| 25th May | Bears of Kamchatka- An Illustrated talk by Vikram Potdar. The Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East of Russia, exhibits a wide range of tundra flora and fauna. Kamchatka is famous for its abundance and size of the brown bears. Apart from brown bears Kamchatka Peninsula is also famous for its bird and marine life. All are welcome with their family and friends. Time: 6.30 pm. Venue: Hornbill House. |

Nature trail at Shilonda, Sanjay Gandhi National Park. With the monsoon on its way and pre-monsoon showers relieving the parched earth join BNHS for a morning at Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Trail should introduce you to birds like Crimson, Purple, and Loten’s Sunbirds, Grey Junglefowl and mammals like Spotted and Sambar Deer. The trail leads through fine forest dominated by bamboo and ends at the first stream. Reporting: Members to meet at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) main gate at 7.30 a.m. How to get there: One can either take a rickshaw from Borivali (E) railway station or walk down to the main gate of SGNP located on the western highway. Nature Trail to Nagla Forest. Explore the lesser known forest of the Nagla Block of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Situated to the North of the Bassein Creek, Nagla Block is considered to be one of the highly rewarding walks near Mumbai, covering a good range of woodland species and a few wetland species of bird at the creek side. With the monsoon now in its first spell watch this forest transform.
