Joins hands with Western Railway and American Centre

Mumbai: 5th June: World Environment Day is here and BNHS is all set to use this occasion to further the cause of conservation through public awareness. Mumbaikars visiting the Churchgate Station from 5th to 7th June can expect an interesting mix of education and entertainment that aims to bring them closer to nature. The 3-day exhibition under the theme “Green Economy” was inaugurated today morning by the Chief Guest Shri GS Banerjee, Chief Commercial Manager, Western Railways. The theme has been aptly chosen since this year has been declared by the United Nations as the year of “Green Economy”. The event has been sponsored by the American Centre of US Consulate General, Mumbai and supported by Western Railways.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Banerjee urged Mumbaikars to lead a more eco-friendly life. Mr Homi Khusrokhan, President, BNHS; Dr Asad Rahmani, Director, BNHS and Mr Michael Mullins, Acting Counsel General, US Consulate, Mumbai were also present on the occasion and emphasized the important role played by public awareness and education in moving towards a greener tomorrow. The three days of the exhibition will also include various side events such as environment quiz, kitchen gardening workshop, face painting workshop for children and myriad other activities. The exhibition and other events are supported by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), E-incarnation and Hanjra Biotechnology. Moreover, the large volunteer force has been provided by Standard Chartered Bank.

The aim of the exhibition is to create awareness among Mumbaikars about the importance of leading an eco-friendly lifestyle in the true sense and integrating biodiversity with businesses. Last year, the exhibitions held at Churchgate and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus were visited by 12,000 people and witnessed a total of 7,529 online pledges. Judging by the response on the morning of the first day, this year too people from different walks of life are expected to visit the exhibition in large numbers.
